World Peace

What would it look like if there were world peace?
If people looked lovingly at others for ways to please?
Selfishness would be lost in a sea of love.
No one would feel isolated and never enough.
What would this world look like if no wars were engaged.
If wealth all was dispersed and the hungry were assuaged.
If everyone had everything that they need to feel blessed.
Instead of conceited persons boasting that they are the best.
What if we looked out for others with the same regard we give ourselves.
What if we really cared and into each other’s souls we did delve?
What if our priorities were saving the things that matter, such as planet earth.
What if we weren’t focused on entertainment, follies and mirth?
I can’t begin to imagine a selfless world that should be.
But maybe this world can start with a little of you, and a little of me.
What can you do today to make this world a better place?
Can you spread love, compassion and grace?
Until that day when pain ceases to exist,
And life is euphoric and filled only with bliss,
I’ll keep on striving for an imaginary end.
Until one day one of many options amend.
One option is I pass on from this world to a place unknown.
Until that day I will make sure my choices aren’t blown.
I’ll strive to do good and make an impact on this world.
I’ll hope that a light in the darkness will be thirled.
Another option for some is the idea of an eternal paradise.
A eutopia where evil is vanquished for the good and the nice.
Ever-lasting bliss where we celebrate with praise,
The One who has brought us though all of our days.
Some believe in a cosmic shift of our energy.
Where we ascend to another plane of universal synergy.
Maybe we change forms and become one with the universe.
Infinite knowledge, while space and time we transverse.
Regardless of what becomes of our lives in the end.
What matters most is how our time is now spent.
Does it matter what our lives are in the future to be,
If we don’t live our best for the world we now see?
So, make an impact and try to make the world a better place.
With compassion and love find a dream for to chase.
May your dream bring you joy and bless all that you serve.
May you live with excitement, enthusiasm and verve.
A life well spent won’t be looked on with regret.
Our failures will be lessons we use and not fret.
We live, and we learn, and we go on each day.
We grow, and we bless others we pray.
So please be the awesome person that you’re meant to be.
You can make a difference in this world you see.
Only you can fill a spot that is shaped just like you,
In the fabric of life; your value infinitely true.
Be the blessing you are fully meant to become.
Never doubt your worth no matter where you’re from.
Believe in yourself and in others too.
Believe in yourself, like I believe in you.

About this poem

I wrote this poem because I, like many others, dream of a world where people loved each other and cared about others all equally. A world where planet earth was protected, animals thrived, and people had the things they need to be healthy.

I chose this poem because I know all too well the yearn for what it proposes. What I wouldn't give for a world described here. It's comforting to know I'm not the only one who desires world peace.
