If I was your daughter

Sometimes I wish I were your daughter
What a selfish thing to say
I don't deserve the world I was brought into
The love or the hate.
You supposedly loved music
The arts and film analogy
And I love those things too
At least I think I do
Maybe I wouldn't if I were your daughter.
Who would I be if I was your daughter?
I can only hope A better person
You seem like a better person than him
What a selfish thing to say
I wish she didn't have to go through that pain
The love of her life gone
Ended up with a monster.
Sometimes I wonder if they resent my existence
A constant reminder of what they lost
Of what they were forced through
Because she understandably
Did not want to be alone.
Why do they even pretend
That we are fully connected
Our genes are foreign
Only connected through a woman
Who I don't think wanted me
And he never wanted her
Only me
And all I wanted was for him to be like you.
But what am I saying?
I don't know who you are
Just the obituary I read online
I do not understand their pain of loosing you
And I never will
Because I am not your daughter
And I never will

Boy, this poem hit me deep. I truly feel this piece because I too felt this way being raised by an abusive mother, but my God mother was the best and I would always ask myself this exact same question. If I was her daughter(Godmother) what would've life been like if she raised me. Excellent piece, well executed.
