Always

You saved me in more ways than you know
So when the darkness comes to accuse you
Don’t believe it
I’m crying out like a whining child
About my pain and your selfishness
And you know what, it’s true
You are selfish and you do abuse
Sometimes without meaning to
And sometimes with the scalding iron
Of indifference and revenge

If you ever want to be free, call me
When the pain becomes too great
And you reach the end of all the lies
When you wake up to all that never came,
call me

My selfishness ran just as deep as it did for you
In a lot of ways, I was no different than you
In a lot of ways, I was worse

By the way, all of you onlookers,
He succeeded
It was the rest of you who failed
In your arrogance
You exposed yourselves
In person
In writing
In energy
For years
All of you
Believing kindness to be weakness
And a smiling heart, obliviousness
God makes all things new

So, if it’s ever dark and you need someone
Think of me
Call me and I’ll be here
I’ll be forever grateful for you
Accidental friend
That hates me
And loves me
I will love you, too
Always

Will you do it again,
or will you have courage?
That wasn’t, this isn’t, who you are
Who you were meant to be
