A song: The First and the Last

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

MAKE THE LAST FIRST
There are many things I don’t understand.
I just try to obey when I hear His command.
I try to do everything I hear Him say.
I meditate on it each night; every day.
He leads me along like a sheep in His pasture.
I will drink from His streams because He is my Master!
AND I LOVE JESUS!

I must rejoice in the time that I have;
I know I’ll be going home soon.
Train up my fingers and work with my hands;
I’ll use what I find in the loom.
With the yarn and some thread, I’ll continue the pattern.
The one that is laid out before me.
I will wait by the alter; wait by the cross.
When He comes back His Love will reward me.
