The Anxious Elevator

My elevator carries me
To dif'rent floors each day.
It has no buttons I can see
And push along the way.

It chooses up.  It chooses down,
Not caring who's inside.
Unscheduled stops can make me frown
With fluctuating rides1

The basement is a frequent place
My elevator goes.
Depression always leaves a trace
Of falling hope that shows

The rides we use to get somewhere,
Will sometimes choose the way,
Since transportation does not care
Because it wants to play!
