WHERE IS THE DELTA IN THE NIGER?
WHERE IS THE DELTA IN OUR NIGER?
No! I see no Delta in our Niger...
It has gone far far years beyond,
They that came, diminished and magically vanished and vacated and impoverished the Delta in our Niger.
WHERE IS THE DELTA IN OUR NIGER?
No! I see no Delta in our Niger...
It is a soup of mirage cooked by the scavengers.
They that came, throw a spare into that thing that makes our Delta a Niger and makes our Niger a Delta.
WHERE IS THE DELTA IN OUR NIGER?
No! I see no Delta in our Niger...
They came and manufactured doom of skyscrapers and did nothing,
As our something is now nothing,
And if nothing is done,
Nothing is nothing...
WHERE IS THE DELTA IN OUR NIGER?
No! I see no Delta in our Niger...
When her dwellers have coined her failures to a kingdom of market place.
And smartinglly killed her voices,
to loan gold and silver of crass circumstances.
Oh My Delta! You, my unblemish mother, that had hopelessly suckled the breast of our Niger.
You have Married mirage as husband and gave birth to Ali Baba and the Fourty thieves through reincarnation.
A wonder wand of your magical source made my consciousness float up on the Niger aimlessly.
The soul of Delta journeying to no where of somewhere into the womb of the embattled scavengers...
Taking us to a dangerous freedom.
About this poem
This poem is about the Niger Delta Region in West Africa, to be specific Nigeria. The poem speak about the displacement of the environment and loss of naturalness of the region. The Niger Delta Region is full of natural resources, such as crude oil, gas, and other aquatic elements that makes it a unique setting. But all these desolutionment cause by the Oil explorers and endogenous oil theft, militancy and other social vices. Thus we can not sustain the Delta any longer. The Niger is polluted, the Delta is polluted. None of the these elements are useful and apt in terms of use and activity. We therefore put a protest of lamentation, crying for help, for remediation of the environment together with compensation. The explorers and oil theft are seen as scavengers in the poem, and people are silent with out any form of destination. more »
