"Lately"

lately i've been afraid
to write about my thoughts
instead i've kept them bottled up
and i've hidden them from myself

lately i've been thinking about the sun
about her departure and why she left
lately it seems like everyone is leaving
taking one way tickets out of town

lately i've been hoping for a phone call
from a friend i haven't seen in a while
but i've been awake all night
tossing my head around my cold pillow
and the sun hasn't called back
will the sun ever call back?

lately i've been requesting second chances
i think that they're all dried out
