Tadpole Creek

Once there was a little creek,
next to the barn of a girl on a curious streak.
With a net in her hand and a grin on her freckled face,
She caught the tadpoles trapped in the rocks of the watery place.

Her eyes lit up as she watched them squirm,
She couldn’t wait to watch them turn.
Into frogs of bold deep green,
Like out of the little girls' dreams.

She scooped them into her ladybug jar,
Excitement bubbling near and far.
She walked home, her heart filled with pride,
She had the tadpoles by her side.

But while she slept soundly that night,
Her tadpoles vanished out of her sight.
She woke up and ran to the ladybug jar,
Only to find they didn’t swim to far.

Her heart sank with disappointment as she realized,
That catching tadpoles wouldn’t keep them alive.
She learned a lesson from that day on,
To admire natures beauty from a far.
