The Last Afterglow

Joe Strickland 1986 (Hobbysville, SC)

It was a moment of tranquility,
With the stillness
Of the evening air
And the gentle breeze
Brushing past the trees.
Everything around
Seemed to be in a state
Of perfection,
As if the world
Had paused to appreciate
The beauty of the moment.

As the last afterglow
Painted the clouds
With hues of pink and gold,
It felt like it was a goodbye
To the day that had passed.
It was a reminder
That no matter
How beautiful something may be,
It will always come to an end.

I'm just a regular, blue collar, working stiff who took an interest in writing poetry many years ago but until recently I haven't had a desire to share any with anyone or pursue publication. I'm an unpublished fork lift operator by night, and a day drinker by choice. I can be followed on Twitter @JoeStricklandSC more…

But then there will be other glories. We are to expect things beautiful. It is not supposed to be about expiries, but rather transformations and surprises from the Almighty. This message is found even in the midst of Lamentations in the OT.

This poem makes one think of beauty that holds its perfection but a little moment and then all is passed., or might that is no stronger than a flower.. All in perfection but a brief moment.
    Good poetic lines!
