Children

The way we present ourselves
To the world
Says a lot about who we are
And what we're capable of.
We often put on a façade
To impress others
Or to conform
To societal expectations.
But, when it comes to our children,
There is no hiding
Or pretending.
They reveal our true selves
And our reality.
Our actions,
Behavior,
And values
Are reflected
In how we raise and nurture them.
Our potential
May be demonstrated
In our external image,
But our reality
Is exposed through our children.
They serve as mirrors,
Reflecting our strengths
And weaknesses,
Successes
And failures.
Be mindful.
Be the example.
We have impact
On them.
And they ultimately
Reveal our most
Authentic selves.

I'm just a regular, blue collar, working stiff who took an interest in writing poetry many years ago but until recently I haven't had a desire to share any with anyone or pursue publication. I'm an unpublished fork lift operator by night, and a day drinker by choice. I can be followed on Twitter @JoeStricklandSC more…
