The Wind It Carries

Joe Strickland 1986 (Hobbysville, SC)

The wind carries a smile,
A whisper from a distant friend,
A gentle touch that erases the gloom
And fills me with a sense of belonging.

The sun's warm embrace,
A kiss on my cheek,
Dispels the memories of past pain
Leaving only hope and anticipation.

It's easy to forget the passage of time,
As days blur together like a river's flow,
Yet it seems like only yesterday
That my path took me away from you.

But now the road leads me home,
With eager feet and an open heart,
And the patience and love you've shown,
Brings me even closer to you, dear.

The wind may twist and turn,
And fate may lead us down different roads,
But the smile it carries will always remain,
Guiding me towards you once again.
