Prose And Poetry

Joe Strickland 1986 (Hobbysville, SC)

Prose and poetry,
Two mediums so unlike,
Yet they both speak
Of words and world, in their own light.

Prose, the simple language
Of every day's chore,
A story teller,
a descriptive clamor.

It flows like a river,
Uninterrupted and plain,
Direct and explicit,
No ornamentation or tension.

But poetry,
It's more than just plain.
It's the art of words,
The forming of a melody.

It's alchemy in motion,
A touch of magic and spell.
It's the art of illusion,
A story to apprise.

It's the cadence of life,
the rhythm of a beat.
It's the theme of love,
weaving a tapestry so pleasant.

It's the language of emotion,
A power to transform.
It paints a picture so vivid,
That of prose can't be emerged.

Prose and poetry,
two worlds so different to see.
But both have their magic,
And both cater to breathe.
