No Such thing as Luck

Rena Sykes 1993

 No such thing as luck

With everything I have
I only see blessings
Nothing came overnight
I didn’t always see the green light.

You learn to crawl before you walk
Nobody knows your story before they talk
They only see what’s in the front row
They weren’t around to see the storm before the rainbow.

Hard work pays off
Nothing was given in my hands
By the grace of God I have what I have
I don’t expect them to understand.

I was brought out of the dark and into the light
I had to turn my wrongs into rights
You didn’t see what I been through
Before this chapter, you missed the preview.

I was lost, and I was stuck
It was the goodness of God
There is no such thing as luck

About this poem

This poem is about how a woman had to work hard to have what she has in her life now. People would tell her she is lucky, and act as if everything was given to her. People didn’t see what she had to go through to get where she is now. Trials and tribulations. By the grace of God, she is truly blessed.
