alabaster hush

Bill Lindsay 1955 (Sunderland)

.
Spring
.

wake now from slumber ‘neath cool earth

stretch out your arms for all you’re worth

tear back the cloak of winter’s guise

full faced - behold the warming skies

.

Summer
.

forgotten now the growing pains

as young shoots fed by early rains

proclaim to all in colours bright

as each in turn attains full height
.

Autumn
.

and having shed their seeds abroad

multiplication - their reward

the myriad hues of summer fade

their children’s future pathway laid

.

Winter
.

full spent, nature’s frenetic rush

encased in alabaster hush

safeguarded in their shelter deep

new generations in deep sleep
.
