Instead I Dream

Instead I Dream

The lights are just ripples now
All around there is quiet
So calm only the air breathes
Darkness is all I see
Sleep is trying to take me
My eyes weigh as
Heavy as sadness on a smile
A damp wet blanket
Upon my aching body
You are not here
So instead I dream.

Waters run to the lowest point
My sorrow down the same
Your departure made
A pain worse than a knife
Right in my back
Betrayal bleeding me
So severe red
Colored my trust
My cry became a howl
Like a frightened wolf
Hope runs away from me.

Sleep eludes my dubious night
The uncertainty lingers
Your absence is cruel
There are no eyes
No hands or limbs
Wrapping around me
Only memories
Imaginary moments
Unfulfilled desires
The stars shine no longer
So instead I dream of you.
