It's Never Quite Right

It's never quite right.

We search and we search,
for love that will complete us,
for meaning and purpose,
in a world that seems to suffocate.

We fall in love with the wrong people,
we chase after fleeting illusions,
and in the end, we are left empty,
a shell of who we once were.

We die a little each day,
with each missed opportunity,
with each dream left unfulfilled,
with each love that slips away.

And still we live,
hoping for something more,
reaching for the stars,
even as the darkness closes in.

We try to make sense of it all,
to find meaning in the chaos,
to understand why we are here,
and what our purpose is.

Yet the answers elude us,
and the more we search,
the more lost we become,
in a world that is never quite right.

But still we live,
we love, we die,
and we keep searching,
even as we know,
that it's not quite right,
never quite right,
this life we live,
one after the other,
piled there as history,
the waste of the species,
the crushing of the light.
