Goodbye Nigeria!

I want to be an American;
I want to be a citizen of God's Own State.
America, their America
where democracy thrives,
where the rule of law is sacrosanct.

Obodo Chineke goziri;
a nation that cares for her citizens;
where old people are taken care of,
and given a home.

In Nigeria, old people are abandoned to die; government embezzles their pensions and gratuities.

Nigeria, home of corruption (aruruala);
where rulers are selected by INEC:
people who failed elections are made to rule,
those who won elections are advised to "go to court".
In Nigeria, judges use magic wands to determine "winners" and "losers".
A country where Religion and Tribe determine who gets what;
A country where competent men are abandoned for mediocrity.

In Nigeria, King Nebuchadnezzar is very much alive.
The three arms of government take orders from the executive.
The president snobs the court,
and the legislative arm is rubber-stamp.

Nigeria, an oil-rich country
that imports fuel,
and charges the citizens to pay dubious "subsidies", while abandoning her 4 refineries to rot.

I want to be an American
no more, no less

Goodbye Nigeria,
Wellcome America.
Nigeria
a country of jungle men,
where horrors are reeled out everyday, and basic facts erased through propaganda.

I want to be an American
no more, no less,
and bid goodbye to obodo Nigeria;

About this poem

Nigeria is a horrible country, where corruption, injustice and all kinds of evil abound. The present Buhari regime took Nigeria 100 steps backward. It will take a hardworking president 20 years to right the horrors of the Buhari administration, and rebuild Nigeria. The state governors are more evil than Buhari himself. Each governor runs his State as a fief. For instance, the local governments are controlled by the governors, who fight the independence of the local governments. Many citizens suffer untold hardships under the governors. Money spent running the legislative arm is wasted for nothing.
