Timeless Estrangement

Youthful heart, enraptured so much,
Feelings expressed in written touch,
A note bestowed in classroom clutch,
A surprise proposal, caught unaware as such.

I laughed it off, thinking it was a joke,
But little did I know, destiny had plans to provoke.

Our first meeting was fate's call,
He left for years, but love rekindled after all.

But our love was tested, and our fate seemed unkind,
Intense love, a bond so strong, but lockdown struck and everything went wrong.

Once more, I gave my all, heart and soul,
Our love reignited like the flames of old.
Yet, things began to falter, and I knew my fault,
Abashed of my mistakes, I still gave my all, with hope's assault.

Did all my efforts end up in vain, to make everything right?
Why did only your efforts count, not mine in sight?
With pleading and tears, I implored him to stay,
But his heart was elsewhere, and he chose to go away.

Left in pieces with nothing to prove,
I tried to release but couldn't remove.
I found myself perplexed by your departure,
Wondering why our love couldn't reach closure.

Initially, you empathized with my pain,
But eventually, your own desires did reign.
You claimed happiness without my presence,
And spoke of goals that lacked my essence.
How could individual growth be so trivial,
When our bond was once so pivotal?

In two months' time, your name was heard
In close company with another bird.
The pain of denial and misery I felt,
As memories of us began to melt.

Do you remember the time you said,
Three seconds was all you couldn't spare?
Now love seems like a distant memory,
Leaving me to wonder if you ever cared.

Words unkind, actions unjust,
Pain inflicted with little trust,
Yet still I held on, for love's name,
A promise to keep, amidst the hurt and shame.

You claimed you could love someone new,
Perfect and matured, without a single flaw.
But love is more than just the ideal we pursue,
It's embracing the flaws that make it pure and raw.

Your eyes now evoke a sense of fear,
The love that once shone, no longer here,
Once they held adoration dear,
My heart's early warmth, now just a souvenir.

How swiftly you abandoned the rains, festivals, and chats,
Those moments of magic lost, as if in distant lands and unknown flats.
Amidst the pain, I chuckle at how you've turned golden memories into shades of gray,
Trust, promises once made, now broken and forgotten, they too have faded away.

Yet, I honor the effort you've made,
And never have I belittled the love you so beautifully portrayed.
I knew a lad with an enigmatic side,
Whose roots and soul, only I could abide.

Reality changed him, no longer walked alone,
A lion unknown, no longer known.
Part of me died with him as he grew and changed,
Memories of our love, forever estranged.

Our fate uncertain, our story unnamed,
He fell first, but she fell harder, a tale we'll forever tell.

About this poem

Once upon a time, there was a young maiden who was devoid of emotion, and a youthful lad who was overflowing with passion. They were each other's initial love, but their tale concluded with a bizarre twist - their characters were swapped. The girl, who was once heartless, became filled with fervor, while the boy, who was once full of heart, turned cold and distant. An incomplete tale written down in form of a poem, yet the story doesn't end.

Hi, I'm a 16-year-old Indian poet who has found solace in expressing myself through poetry. I've always been a natural leader and unafraid to speak my mind, but poetry has become the medium that truly resonates with me. Through my words, I share my personal experiences and emotions, hoping to touch the hearts of those who read them. My dream is to use my poetry to make a difference in the world, to give voice to those who are often silenced and to inspire others to do the same. more…
