Blink of an Eye

A new hope, a new life, a new story,
Tears of joy all around, pinning future highs and lows unto thee
With each baby step, an ebb and flow of emotions
With every word, every chuckle, hearts are warmed
A hug here, an adoration there, months and years fly by
Looking back, you wonder, was it all in a blink of an eye?

Exuberance of youth, limitless energy, sky high aspirations
You yearn for the best, you learn, your fall and you falter
Standing at the doorway of maturity, beckoned by struggles, success and frustrations
Light heartedness, burden less shoulders, eventually a far cry
You reminisce of the younger innocent you, and how it all went by in a blink of an eye.

Life takes you head on, a deluge of experiences, drowns you head deep
You stay afloat, barely, in face of heartbreaks, disappointments and broken promises
You try to play long with the show, chin up, motivations steep
But then a shroud of reality descends on your conscience
Questioning your existence , purpose, gains, losses and the mind’s intricate processes
Down trodden yet persistent, you walk on, with life’s mysteries unfolding before you
All the while recalling the ‘good ol’ days’, how they went by, in the blink of an eye.

Years whither away, as the hair turn grey and the knees go weak
Distances grow, seclusion sets in while the eyes turn wise
In silence you ponder over a life rife with ifs, buts, wants and needs
One day, the curtain falls and transition sets in
Tears of sorrows and mourning, both hollow and meaningful fall on your ears, six feet under
Like an instant in eternity your life plays in front of you
Your first words, your belligerent youth, your egotistical fanaticism, your radiating wisdom of senility
You wonder in eternal peace, how this experience called life went by,
You question yourself, was it all, in a blink of an eye?
