Catch Up

Jeffrey Powell 1979 (Pittsburgh, PA)

Never one to express how l felt - always kept it to myself
Always been about the peace - trying to keep it in the least
Getting by people-pleasing - this asserting game sure ain't easy
I'll put myself in other's shoes - but they don't let me pick and choose

But now, I'm livin' more for myself
Got to loosen up the belt
Rollin' with the change that's gotta come
Embracing more the world of random

Now I'm writing a 'me' poem
Even though nobody asked me for one
Using my words how I want
And, it's great, I don't even have to front
Put together, may not look it
These expressions won't be crooked
Wait a moment, my mouth'll catch up
To my thoughts -which I can't seem to stop

Intuition is my guide - I'm not concerned with all the facts
Let me have my cry sometimes and I can keep myself intact
In a world of selfishness - I should be a breath of fresh air
Accept this sensitiveness? I don't think you can take that dare

But now, I'm livin' for myself
I've been loosening the belt
Rollin' with the change that's gonna come
Embracing more the world at random

Now I'm writing a 'me' poem
Even though nobody asked me for one
Using my words how I want
And, it's great, I don't even have to front
Put together, may not look it
These expressions won't be crooked
Wait a moment, my mouth'll catch up
To my thoughts -which I can't seem to stop

Introversion truly serves me
That is how I am, mindfully
And I'll take some compassion
That's the picture to this caption
Introversion can be pretty
We could all act more mindfully
And a bit more compassion
What's a picture with no caption

Now I'm writing a 'me' poem
Even though nobody asked me for one
Using my words how I want
And, it's great, I don't even have to front
Put together, may not look it
These expressions won't be crooked
Wait a moment, my mouth'll catch up
To my thoughts -which I can't seem to stop
Wait a moment, my mouth'll catch up
To my thoughts -which I can't seem to stop

About this poem

This would be even better if put to music as a pop anthem...

Jeffrey Powell

A bit of an introvert, Jeffrey enjoys using words and poetry as an outlet for expressing his thoughts and feelings. He tends to play by his own rules and darts in and out of the civilized world, as avoiding the conventional gathering is more his style. Jeffrey lives with his fraternal twin whom he enjoys sharing a laugh with at the opportune time. more…
