A Memory of Joy and A Memory of Pain

A Memory of Joy

The sun shone bright on that summer day,
As we laughed and played by the bay.
With sand between our toes,
And the ocean breeze in our nose,
We felt free as birds, happy and joyous.
oh Mother of the Sea.

We built sandcastles and chased the waves,
Our hearts were light, our spirits brave.
We watched seagulls soar high,
As we let out a contented sigh,
Knowing this moment we’d forever save.

We shared moments, I ate ice cream cones and lemonade,
Now you had a need to tickle a skeleton's funny bone,
And soaked up the sun’s warm cascade.
We felt so alive and free,
Like nothing could stop our glee,
As we basked in our childhood escapade.
Who Says Ghosts Can't Give Warm Hugs?
Ah, ghosts, the eternal epitome of all things spooky (right next to zombies and skeletons).
From poltergeists to the more friendly variety,
Every culture around the globe has its fair share of ghost stories.
After all, who hasn’t wondered about the afterlife before?
And who hasn’t once thought about the possibility that, even now, an invisible, ethereal force has its eyes on you?
I am here, as a threshold portal between realms.

In addition to wealth, you bring love, romance, and success,
but you do possess the capacity for violence and you are not a spirit to be trifled with.
Like your namesakes, the Sirens, La Sirène you associations with death.
You lure those who offend you (like those who fail to pay their debts to you!) and drag them to a watery death.

A Memory of Pain

The night was long and full of fear,
As I lay in bed, unable to bear.
The darkness seemed to consume me,
As I felt lost, alone, and unfree,
My heart heavy with an unrelenting tear.
Oh sacred Mother of the Sea.
Negotiations, discussions, I signed the contract.
That sacred binding agreement.
Adze, Amadlozi, Asanbosam, Egbere, Wangliang, Obake
Asura, Preta, White Lady, Sihuanaba,
You yourselves bear me witness, that I took the oath.
Ifrit, Mae Nak, And you also will bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning.

I tried to push the thoughts away,
But they persisted, day after day.
My mind felt like a prison cell,
And my heart a deep, dark well,
As I struggled to find my way.

The memories haunted me like a ghost,
A constant presence, a perpetual host.
They consumed me whole,
And took a toll on my soul,
As I fought to find hope and not be lost.

But through the pain, I found my strength,
And slowly, I regained my mental health.
I learned to let go of the past,
And to cherish the memories that last,
For in them, I found joy and life’s true wealth.
