I survived fantasy Land

Fantasy land told me I was big
When the world told me I was small
Fantasy land was my escape
When I couldn't face the world at all
I can be a  mermaid there
Or maybe just just maybe a toy
I can be a pet cat meow
Or a rooting tooting cowboy
I can frolic there in the blue grass
Free from this reality
Such marvelous things I could do
But there's no growth here for me
I can't stay there forever
Rent is due from last week
An adult has to be an adult
And I'm starving there for sleep
It came fast for me for us all
And snuck up by surprise
Reality offered bills and taxes
When we came from color and lies
It dragged me away kicking and screaming
I had heard it was a tragedy
But when I truly looked around
It was bitter and sweet to me
My eyes adjusted well here
I didn't know the colors made me blind
My new life comes with strength
And my real light can also shine
Fantasy land was once my home
It hid me from this place in fear
But it cradled me under a child's lie
Whenever adulthood came near
It was not the monster under the bed
And it is ok to open my eyes
I say friends come out of her
For she is the real enemy of lies
