gone

this time you’re really gone.
this time i can’t call you to go to sleep with
this time you are no longer mine.
i still remember our last happy night
past my curfew,
the windows were rolled down
the wind whipping our hair around as we sped down the street
music joyously sliding into the open air.
music we chose
our music.
i had one hand on the wheel, the other tightly clasped in yours
my fingers danced as i drove
while yours brought our hands to play an imaginary guitar.
all the while we yelled the lyrics.
we yelled the lyrics.
together, us.
now it is just me and you,
separate people now.
no longer bound together by love,
but alone and scared.
how do i be okay
now that you are truly gone.
