An Alcoholic Marries

Johnny Millican 1953 (Texas)

Always a derelict and a drunkard;
Three sheets to the wind-
If I had a forever home;
I could see around the bend-
I might not sleep so lonesome;
When I’m sober and dry;
And write my family a letter;
Apologizing while I cry.

About this poem

There are too many remembrances of marriage s over the years I have seen that the husband or wife expects to be happy and one of the couples abandon their family through addiction. This poem is from the view point of the addict after he or she realizes what they had.
