I am okay

Oh no, here comes that thought again
The one I just can't ignore
I feel the fear wash over me
Like a wave crashing on the shore

I try to ignore it, just push it away
Think happy thoughts instead
It doesn't care, justing gripping harder
Creating a darkness within my head

My breathing is getting rapid
My hands start to shake
My heart feels like it's going to explode
It's more than I can take

Remember what they taught you
Focus on your breath
In and out, in and out
Just don't think about death

Seconds feel like hours
And minutes feel like days
But at last my mind and body settles
I am okay, I am okay

About this poem

I have suffered from anxiety since 2013 and it often presents itself as intrusive thoughts surrounding death. This is my interpretation of a panic attack
