Another Road

Always told that I
Would make a good lawyer.
Had the public speaking, paper writing
History Major.
I listened to them
And not to my own heart.
Hurried my start
To Law School.
Although the Dean
Called me to his office.
Told me to slow down
Take another year undergrad.
Might end up a Teacher.
And a good one.

Oh no, gotta hurry
Gotta save the world.
Big bucks too.
But thanks anyways.
He was right and I was wrong.
Practised Law 1976 to 1987. Chatham.
Bank shut me down.
But that ended up
Becoming an Exodus
(Moses parting the waters
Leading people of God to a promised land.)

In my case Kitchener/Waterloo.
And a new start
In blue collar factory spot.
Thirty-two years.
Healthy, busy, honest work.
No more nightmares.
