I am a working Mum

I am a working Mum
Poem by Amy Rothwell

I am a working Mum.
Today it failed, I lost the plan
Sometimes I win sometimes I loose
Sometimes I simply miss the cherished moments
I am bemused
Everyday by the balance and the choices I have made
Was I right, was I wrong
Was I simply breathing as one
I am a working Mum.

Sometimes I have to face the compromises
Face the mother I have become
Driven to succeed as a mum or a boss
I am the parent who my children look to
I am the parent who gets cross.
I am a working Mum.

Will they remember the moments filled with tiredness or the moments filled with joy
In between the car doors, among the memories that will fade
I am a working Mum.

Before children I chose purpose
Never judgement for another
I create meaning in what I do
Capturing memories that are few
I am a working Mum.

Now my children are surrounded by love
Guilt is the make believe feeling
It hovers above
Instead capturing the sense of pride
In my choices, in my family
Sometimes I win and I lose
Every day I love, every day I live
Today It failed but today I am proud
I am a working Mum

About this poem

This is a poem about the struggles of a working Mum. How even when we feel like we are failing as a mother we are failing ourselves to remember the choices and instead see purpose in what we do in life and in work and motherhood
