Hymn of the Battle Unsung

There's a field with a monument not to be seen

It appears quite unassuming, harmless and green

Is the measure of loss weighed in glory and years?

Are the eyes never opened not worthy of tears?

Let me say with conviction after where I've been

I would gladly face death and enemies unseen

I've lost something inside that will never restore

If I'm merely a ghost what's the harm in a war?

Forever scarred that day in a hospital bed

As you were with your brothers dying and dead

It is said that our plights are in no way a match

For I don't don shiny pins or a patch

I have a proposal for what we should do

I will hand you my baby decaying and blue

Round for round we fight for the title and purse

To compare primal pains and see which feels worse

About this poem

I felt compelled to pen this after a therapy session in which It was implied that PTSD is exclusively for soldiers who have seen battle and not attributed to those of us who have experienced a still birth
