Beautiful Beings with Beautiful Minds

Roses are red, violets are blue, if I had one wish

It would to have beauty that would turn heads

Maybe I do or maybe I don't, all I know is

I haven’t felt beautiful in an ultimate, satisfying way

Why say that? Beauty withers away like a flower but

If it makes you feel better, know that you were and still are

The epitome of beauty to the two souls who first laid their eyes on you

I might even say they were love struck by what God gave them

If I am seen as the epitome of beauty by the dear folks

I hold close to my heart, I wonder how I’m seen by those

Who are blinded by the unrealistic perceptions of being beautiful

The thought weighs so hard that at times optimism about

Self-worth or self-esteem becomes a luxury I can’t afford

Beauty isn’t all about the outlook of a person

I tell you, it is so much more than that

It’s the way a person is, his or her whole being

Their smile that either makes one fluster or warm inside

Their laugh which for a brief moment is contagious enough

To make one forget the hurdles life has for them

And just their connections towards God’s appealing creation

I can see you are a being with great intellect

Something I’m not so sure if I have or not

I’m chained and at crossroads right now

The critics and stereotype of society can be

Like a swarm of bees, huddled all around you

Drowning the very thoughts of yearning to come

Out a shell that cages in the profound blossoming of

Talent, creativity and deep understanding of life itself

Do not let the perspectives of a society

Living in a rather imperfect world become your ruler

You have beauty both outside and within you

Your mind is a treasure box of ideas that is

Locked and concealed, just like mine used to be

Unlock it and reveal to the world just how

Much difference you can make by inspiring people

Making them awed to see what you have to offer

Indeed what you have said is true, let us not

Hold ourselves back, allowing doubt and insecurities

Build a wall between us and things we aspire to do

Confidence and strength is to be mastered and built

To say what needs to be heard and shown

Having determination to remove the veil set upon

What we consider ourselves to be and have

And that is a beautiful being with a beautiful mind
