50 Years of Bliss

Now this is a story
All about how
Their life came together
And we were brought up so well
So us let me take a minute
Just sit right there
We will tell you how they became
The Ulrichs in this 50 year love affair!

In Cliffside, NJ
Not born and raised,
Is where moms ex fiance took mom for her 21st b-daz
He introduced her to a man she never knew
Then became his stalker
On top of the one at the local bar too!
It was in Summer 1971’
Aunt Denise and Mom was her babysitter
Go out for some fun
Bingo night upon them, mom saw him there
Said hey lets meet up after this
And start this new love affair
That is when it started
Who would have known then
That in 1973
Some of you had a wedding to attend

1972 was the time,
Bingo was the game
He asked her to marry him,
She said yes all the same!
After some time goes by
With a bun in the oven
They decided to tie the knot
Which came all of a sudden
Carlstadt NJ, St. Josephs Church is where they wed
Father Michael Judge, helped with the vows that they said.
A happy time for all to see,
Family, friends and baby to be!
Up to the catskills,
For some honeymoon fun,
Having a good time
Wondering if they will have a daughter or a son

Now here we are in July 1973
Their first bundle of Joy
They named her Dawn Marie
Cute and blonde
With curly hair
She was daddys little princess
The only girl in the house that didn’t wear fake hair
A dancer at heart and songs in her voice
Daddys little Girl, was her shows best choice
Few years later
After settling in a home
August 1976 a new baby
A son of their very own
Robert Joseph, blonde and small,
Little did they know
How many times he would fall
Falling out of a car, two black eyes
Christmas in the hospital, But to no surprise
Dawn sat patiently waiting for her brother
To open their gifts from santa with each other
A loving brother was what she had,
The family of four,
Life wasn’t so bad.

But  Something was missing life was just not complete,
One more child, would be the perfect fleet
March 1979, Rob is now outnumbered
Denise Michele is here, two sisters one brother
Brown haired girl, mischievous and cute
But they didn’t know, she would be anything but mute

A family of five
Living life on the first floor
We are not done yet
There is still much much more
Their perfect little family needed more room
Bergen county wasn’t cutting it
Up to Highland lakes they will zoom

Lets fast forward two decades. . . .

25 year and they never had a fight
Their kids wanted to set them up for a night
A fun video we set up while they were out
Mtn Airy, some money & a show to be excited about
And to think I was gonna end it with this
Oh no we still have 25 more years of loving bliss

Now before I loose you from the past 50 cheers
Lets fast forward to the grandkid years
Dawn was first as rightfully so
Two boys we will name as we go,
Then came Denise with Boy Girl Twins
Rob felt left out two more twins for the win
What to our surprise an unexpected gift from heaven
Another little boy, to make
The magnificent 7
Low and behold we have one more child
An odd chap who likes to party wild
His name is smalls and he is our brother
He is most definitely from another mother!
Plastic but cute, crazy with blonde hair
He comes with us everywhere
Hey why is it Denise is the only one born with brown hair

All blonde hair except for one
Could they be milk Mans children and I’m thr only rightful one
Now let’s get back to this blessed event
I haven’t even spoke of the fun that we have had yet

Let’s talk about the reason the kids came about, marriage was apart of these creations! Let’s cheer and shout!
First there is Sarah the artistic girl that she is! She really should go into the party decor biz! Then there is Rich, the marine of the clan, who plays with elevators but a history teacher was originally his plan! And lastly we have Chris, a jokester at times, his talent is as amazing as Dr Seuss Rhymes!
With Brendan, Aidan, Georgie, Mikayla, all these gifts from heaven
Peyton, Iris & Declan to complete the Magnificent 7
The joy they bring, the laughter they share
Never too much to bear!

From the parties we have hosted
To the celebrations we have toasted
All the birthdays that have been had
All the gift that never made us sad
For every Christmas Tree we have cut down
To every kids sporting event we were the loudest sound
Every song every dance, every laugh that made you pee your pants
Every tear happy or sad, Every time we made our parents mad
There is always one thing we all know
No matter where we are or where we go
We have a family that will always be there
For every moment that we share!

About this poem

This poem was originally suppose to be a revision to fresh prince of BelAir however it became too long and out of rhythm. So it’s now just something I made for my parents 50th anniversary
