The Change of Scenery

Trintity Fairbanks 2004 (Salina, KS)

Growing up in the shackled house
in my hometown
there was nothing more important than family,
but as the years went by,
time seemed to fly
And it seemed as though everything shifted.

The environment changed
and along my estranged father came
and swept me away
from the shackled house
my hometown
the only place I've ever been known to stay
to a new place over an hour away.

The family I've known since birth
seemed far away
time passed
true colors flashed
They left and abandoned me?

Isolated and amongst a crowd of white sheep
There is a black one
That is I
Misinterpreted and misunderstood
an outcast by my own blood
a family by water not relation.

IN this journey of isolation
there has been grief
there have been memories made.

The only ones to stay
to not fall away
are in the back of my mid
at ALL times
When are they leaving me?
