Holding your breath

Don't hold your breath is a figure of speech,
but I do it every day until I pass out.
Every day I hold my breath until I pass out
to the point I break down
tears streaming down my face
knowing that I'm still going to hold my breath until I pass out
wishing I could stop but unable.
So I continue to hold my breath until I pass out
and when I pass out my dreams are just as torturous,
reminding me why I hold my breath;
reminding me why I hate holding my breath;
reminding my why I'm still going to hold my breath.
But then I hear from you and exhale...
just to begin to hold my breath again
until I pass out.

About this poem

I write how I feel, and this was (and still is) an emotional metaphor
