"The Loneliness of War"

Jolene Frahm 1954 (Iowa)

I couldn't wait to be shipped out,
    I was like a horse chewing at the bit.
But when I finally did arrive,
    I did not really like it!
I even wondered if I would get out alive.

The bullets and bombs;
    came down on us like rain.
But this wasn't soft and gentle;
    it was full of pain!

I missed home;
    I missed Mom's apple pie.
I even missed the bully;
    who used to punchme in the eye.

I wanted to go home;
    Tho I was surrounded by my buddies;

I FELT SO ALL ALONE!
