A Light in the Darkness

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

The brighter you let your little light shine,
The darker the place the Lord for it will find.
We don’t need a light on a bright sunny day,
When there’s no debt to speak of and no bills to pay.

But we do need a light when the darkness has fallen,
And our sins piled up into heaven are calling.
And we do need a light in this world of madness.
And we do need a light to remove all our sadness.

And we do need a light to show us His love.
Yes, we do need a light that’s from heaven above.
And we do need a way to atone for our failures.
As we move through this sea of unforgiveness as sailors.

And we do need a shepherd to guide us through this desert.
And we do need a light to find the gate to our treasure.
Be the light that Christ Jesus has made you to be!
Be the light in the darkness that all the lost may see!
