Silent World

Michael Ullom 2004 (Fayetteville)

A few erratic nights ago,
I lived where spirits shine and glow;
It was a strange and quiet place,
It was a wise and ancient space.

And in this little, silent world,
I met a kind and silent girl;
Her strange voice was excited joy;
Every dream she had, I'd enjoy.

For what felt like a hundred days
We talked of life in different ways;
"What does it mean to be alive
If it ends before we realize,

Or if I was just a wonder-
of a dream: a passing thunder."
I thought it weird you'd have such thoughts
When you never said you're distraught.

I'd known that you were beautiful,
But only now I love its full;
I didn't tell you that enough,
You're perfect when you think you're rough.

I miss the days I talked with you;
The horizon burns a dimmer hue;
There's a lasting sound in dreams
Of my sorrowful, muffled screams;

It mimics an old dance of ours;
A dance we spun beneath bright stars;
I hope one day that I will see
An arbor, pretty you, and me,

But you're from a silent world;
A graceful and wise, spirit girl;
It's sad a dream can leave you spent,
But inspiration came and went.

About this poem

It's about a dream I had. I wrote it a few days later, junior year a few years ago.
