Winding road, how far we’ve come: “Still We Rise!”

Risen in the disbelief of chaotic spies,
Upon the impropriety of their wicked lies.
We took our first steps in black charred ties,
We transcended our own silent cries.
Still we rise!

Out of the soot of unholy graves,
Flickering quietly in their barren caves.
Silenced by their neurotic raves,
In our diapers emotionally enslaved,
By the love we craved.
Still we were brave!

Voiceless gulps that choked back tears,
We wrestled shadows & boxed in fear.
Denying ourselves our uniqueness queer,
Encased in a deception of funhouse mirrors.
Still we persevered!

Entombed in a coffin of their digression,
Swimming in pools of indigestion.
Consumed by their childish aggression,
Manipulated by borderline obsession.
Still we found direction!

Cursed by the sins of our selfish fathers,
Ruled by the immaturity of our narcissistic mothers.
Marching in cadence to our family slaughters,
Neglect that shaped us into iron clad daughters.
Still we forged two authors!

Despite the strife, we caught a glance,
A safety space that gave us a chance.
The happy place were our essence danced,
A genuine connection where our souls balanced.
Still we advanced!

We took the long road, yet together we stride,
With love & compassion, we try & we try.
We completely surrender with nothing to hide,
We fight & we fight, proceeding with pride.

Side by side…

Parallel…

Infinitely…

We ride!
