Che

I drank 10 pints of the Devil’s ale
in the Thirsty Dog
On the way home I stopped at
Drakes
Off license for a bottle of Knob
Creek straight Rye

I sat in stupor listening to Ride of
the Valkyries on Spotify
As the night descended  I slumbered
into dreams about dead friends
and foes

Morning light in rainbow display
awakens me. I’m thirsty as hell .
I bring Che for his morning walk
around the half moon.

I crack open my first can of Brew dog
and the sun rises up inside me
Che pees up against an oak tree then
wipes his feet on dead leaves.
Then he’s off chasing his tail as I toss
away my dreams

I’m the first one through the doors of
The Pittsburg
I’ll stay there until late afternoon
before rounding off in The Bucket of
Blood

I sit juiced listening to Ludwig’s
Beethoven’s fifth symphony in D minor
Che as at my feet gnawing at my slippers

I smoke my last Lucky Strike and wash
down my last glass of Knob Creek
I nod off into a drunken slumber

I dream I’m floating on an air bed on a
rocky sea
Che is swimming after me with my slipper
in his mouth
