A Saint’s Prayer

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

How much more must I suffer with tears of injustice?
How much longer must we listen to evil men saying: Trust us?

I see the innocent being slaughtered and the evil goes on.
How much longer must we endure seeing all this wrong?

Father come quickly I cry in despair.
Your creation is ruined; its in need of repair.

Pour out your mercy in kindness and love,
Then rain down your fury from heaven above.

Destroy what you’ve made in the lake of your wrath,
And let us find rest for our souls here at last.
