Stedfastness, as with Job
Doug Blair 1951 (London)
What I have lost
And what I have suffered.
Still God is bright shining
Supreme in my heart.
Devil has tried
And Devil has tested
Have I been bested?
By lust and cruel art?
Friends sit beside me
They offer their “wisdom”.
But wisdom so seldom
Shows up in rebuke.
Wastrels cruel taunt me
On streets of declension
Lost rank and privilege
Might make me puke.
Comes now a storm?
Did we switch to King Lear?
Comes now my Lord.
Who else should I fear?
I am unworthy
But He plans a come through.
Broken my heart.
But such breaking is dear.
