The Light of Life : The Promise of Parenthood
Amidst the shadows of my anxious mind,
A flicker of light I cannot deny,
A happiness that I thought I'd never find,
A baby in my wife's womb doth lie.
The marvels of technology behold,
A Magnetic Resonance Imaging scan,
Reveals the miracle so rare and bold,
My human child, my heart's biggest fan.
I see the form, the curves and lines,
The beating heart, the tiny fingers curled,
A life so pure, a soul that shines,
A future yet to be unfurled.
But in this joy, a darkness creeps,
A fear that grips me in its hold,
What if fate the future cheats,
What if the child is lost, untold?
I look to literature for solace true,
To words of wisdom that might guide,
The path that I must now pursue,
To cherish this child and be its guide.
From Shakespeare's sonnets I learn,
That love must be steadfast and strong,
To keep the fears at bay, and burn,
A light that will last lifelong.
And from the pages of Emily Bronte's tale,
I see the passion and the pain,
Of a mother's love that will never fail,
Even in the face of life's bane.
And in Kipling's poem, I find,
The call to be the best that I can,
To nurture the child and bind,
Our hearts in a loving clan.
So I vow to be the best I can be,
To love my child with all my heart,
To guide it through life's mystery,
And never let us drift apart.
My human baby inside the womb,
Of my beautiful wife so fair,
My joy and my love will forever bloom,
A bond that nothing can impair.
The future may hold challenges untold,
But I am ready for what may come,
For my love for this child will never fold,
A force that will never succumb.
I'll read to it tales of adventure and lore,
I'll teach it the ways of the world,
I'll cherish each moment and so much more,
As my heart and this child become entwirled.
The darkness that once loomed so near,
Now seems to fade and disappear,
For the light of this life shines so clear,
A joy that will forever be so dear.
So let us cherish this moment in time,
As we await the arrival of our child,
For this love and this bond is truly divine,
A joy that will leave us forever beguiled.
My human baby inside the womb,
Of my beautiful wife so fair,
A love that will forever bloom,
A bond that nothing can impair.
