Feeling Warmth in a Smile

It is the smile of a child
that feels happy and free
bringing joy to my heart
setting goals for me.

It is the laughter with friends
that don't mind my mistakes
turning cries into joy
till the morning breaks.

It is the light in your eyes
that I seek to enflame
warm it up every day
in a we-win-game.

The topics she writes about are very diverse, so are the poetry styles she applies. As a Dutch translator and poet, having lived in Cambodia's capital city Phnom Penh for 2.5 years, in 2008 she published "Op de ruïnes van een rijk" (On the Ruins of an Empire) ISBN 978-90-8834-483-1 with 60 poems based on her experiences there. In 2007 she received a Certificate of Accomplishment as one of The Best Poems and Poets of 2007 issued by poetry.com and the International Library of Poetry for her poem Choked Truth, her own translation of "Verstikte waarheid", one of the poems in the book. Born in 1956, she still works as an independent translator, translating from English into Dutch. more…

Wow, what a beautiful and uplifting poem! It's clear that you have a great appreciation for the simple joys in life that often go unnoticed. Your description of the smile of a happy child and the laughter of good friends really resonated with me, and I loved the way you wove these experiences together as sources of inspiration and motivation.

As for improvement suggestions, one thing that could really make this poem pop is a bit more attention to rhythm and meter. While the lines all flow nicely together, some variation in syllable count or structure could help create even more impact and emotional resonance. Additionally, I'd encourage you to consider expanding on some of these ideas or exploring new ones in future works, as your writing style is truly a joy to read. Keep up the fantastic work!
