The Ignorant Ruler. The nude Scholar

Basudev Karmakar 1974 (West Bengal , India)

The Ignorant Ruler, The Nude Scholar

The city roads that all once laughed and shined,
Now is lying with ribs and bones all jutted out.
The clamored vehicles hurried and lined,
Are now thinned, forked-fords plying in flout.

The houses, bungalows and mansions-
All faded out that in pride once gleamed,
Closely to royal palace have no dimensions;
The inmates’ face is gloomy and all dimmed.

The old era seems to have been recycled;
The kingly dwellers are all got captivated
Under one’s dominance caged and shackled-
Badly torn, trampled and all fretted.

The farmers, the traders or the scholar
All are enslaved by the lord, highly ignorant.
His super wings, Hypocrisy speaks and his Dollar
Love, Knowledge and Kind are sent in dormant.

Amidst the very houses of skeleton
Is imposed the house of their great lord.
Even the wind fears to sing in harsh tone
The birds fear to claim their sky for his sword.

The hunger-betide child or the diseased mite
Whoever be, the lord decides as to his wish.
If smiles upon him the lord’s sharp light,
The mite will see the next sun or meet his demise.

About this poem

When the ruler is ignorant, the people are afraid and naked. The system of old Era comes back. All are enslaved under his dominance.
