Resiliency

Resiliency-

The thoughts are intrusive,
this smiles a facade.
How can happiness be so elusive?
I'm truly a fraud.

Heavy is how I would describe depression,
but I remain steady
as I navigate its lesson.

It dampens the burden,
having friends and family
near,
but one things for certain,
I still live in fear.

One day I'll be free,
the weight will be lifted,
and through my vulnerability
true peace, I'll be gifted.

You're not alone,
we all share in sorrow.
Remember how much you've grown,
and pray for a better tomorrow.

About this poem

I’ve recently had some highs and low in life and decided to pick up the pen again for the first time in probably 15 years or so. I’ve had so many thoughts in my head and decided it was time to put something out there, and hope other people can relate and find peace through their own struggles.

This is not bad. One thing to notice: at times the voice of the poem blames himself or herself for the situation and at other times gives it hope. But one thing is for sure, no one should blame himself for depression; it is the silent killer and many times the person cannot help it and needs medical aid or care.
Congratulations on being selected poem of the mind. One can see why. This poem touches on a very delicate situation or illness: depression.

I come from the opposite side of depression... hiding it from myself and then saying it out loud once realizing I was depressed and being completely honest about it with those I loved. Just to realize they didn't really care and didn't show any empathy. Which made depression something much more difficult to face and get over. Well done. My poetry stems from life experience. And this gives me prospective from a different side that would have meant me silent instead of screaming. Thank you.

Depression is something I am familiar with and this author captures the feelings well. Yes it hurts, but if you make it through You are free to reflect on how far you’ve come and the resiliency you needed to get there.
