On Valentine's Day

Promise me no presents
No gifts, no surprises.
Instead, gift me your presence
All gentle, all sincere.

This day is just an excuse,
A day that can confuse.
It’s not the expensive booze
Or the high-quality hotel city views.
It’s you that I decided to choose
For you’re someone I couldn’t imagine to lose.

You loved me through all my emotional blues
With all my mess and all my loose screws.
You always try to put yourself in my shoes
Just to understand my silly or crazy views.

This day is just an excuse,
A day that can confuse.
I don’t want a ride in a luxury cruise
Or even a romantic rendezvous.
It’s you that I decided to choose
For you’re someone I couldn’t imagine to lose.

I fell in love with you
Before I even knew.
And I honestly still have no clue
When it was that my heart really grew.
But for me, across the globe you flew
And look at all we’ve now been through.

I feel like these words are now overdue but…
I’m more than grateful to just have you.
I’m so glad to have fallen in love
With someone as loving as you.

Promise me no presents
No gifts, no surprises.
All I really need is your presence
All gentle, all sincere.

I, too, had someone fly across the globe, Australia to America, that I fell in love with many moons ago. Needless to say, this hit home for me on a personal level. That you opened and closed with the same stanza is brilliant. You opened with love, honesty and heart, told a beautiful story, then closed with love, honesty and heart. Thank you for sharing yourself, Cristina.
