Apparition
The ominous apparition of the yawning pelican,
A harbinger of impending melancholy,
A symbol of the vacuity within,
The abyss that haunts us all, our acrimonious fate.
The mandible that gaped, the orbs that seemed to convey
"Your aspirations and ideals are but a mere illusion",
Reminds us of the inanity of our path,
The interminable cycle of life's onerous burden.
The pelican, with its cavernous, yawning gullet,
Is but a reflection of our own desolation,
A manifestation of the emptiness we discerned
In every facet of this unjust world.
We toil and contend, but to what avail?
The pelican's yawn reminds us: oblivion awaits us in the end.
About this poem
The dream of the yawning of pelican is a reminder of the harsh reality that our dreams and aspirations may never come to fruition, no matter how hard we try or how much we want them to be realized. It speaks of the futility of our efforts and the seemingly insurmountable odds that stand in the way of our success. It is a warning to not get too attached to our hopes and dreams, for they may not come true in the end, and can only lead to disappointment and heartache.
