Eyes of the Lynx
According to Native American Mythology every animal
has spiritual attributes
For example: Owl-wisdom
Cougar-leadership
Snake-healing and transformation
Squirrel-preparing for the future
Rabbit-making great leaps forward
To better understand research animal totems and guardians
The species of Lynx a large nocturnal cat
residing primarily in Canada and Asia
is the knower of secrets
in terms of what we attempt
to hide from others and themselves
I didn't ask for this ability
nonetheless it is ever present
sometimes I try to imagine
having a blind eye for the things I see
And owning a deaf ear to what is truly heard
having known various persons
along my life's mission
friends become distant enemies
while strangers turn close friends
to see what is shrouded
from many
is to realize what one attempts to hide from
themselves
These eyes pierce you
they intrigue you
sometimes both
Underneath that carefully crafted mask
you wear so neatly
resides the very fear of
your interior motives exposed on the exterior
through your smug facade
I witnessed you stutter
these pensive eyes caused you to shudder
Persecute the wealthy woman across the room
but did I detect a note of envy
make fun of the two men sitting arm in arm
yet I perceive a sense of fascination
For now I too will wear my mask
one of innocence and vulnerability
and casually saunter about the room
pretending not to know what I do
Eyes like a lynx once an underappreciated talent
now an invaluable gift
