The Hand of God

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

In fortified bunkers,
Buried deep underground,
From well lighted rooms,
Came a curious sound.

The sound of machines,
Making plans by themselves,
For destroying mankind,
But without a man’s help.

It was already finished,
But they just didn’t know it.
Though the land was destroyed,
They were too far below it.

They had no way of knowing,
The men were all gone.
The destruction was sudden,
And the power left on.

Though tormented by sin,
They all claimed to have dug it.
I could see that they did,
I reached out to unplug it!
