Father's voice

Don't take what you have for granted

I found myself sitting in a park
one evening nearing dusk
while observing a retiring sun
gradually ascending into the horizon

My wandering thoughts
began to dwell upon my childhood
when I heard a man's authoritative voice
calling out to his son
the small child frowned
as these words I found

To hear my father's voice
you have experienced what some
can merely imagine
I would relinquish any year
if only you knew
any time

Allow your heart to be consumed
by gratitude

Rest warm knowing the security
and wisdom of a patriarch embraces you
nothing will ever compare nor replace him
your pillar of strength and refuge
his own life easily would be offered for yours

Be mindful when grown seated at a park upon a
certain day
reflect on this invaluable experience
how I long to share this knowledge
youthful man of tomorrow

Do not take what you have for granted
