Kneel to your conscience

Tonight your conscience comes calling
Last November comes knocking

(pause)

Alone in your bed except your conscience and you
time to deal with the shame
you have no one to blame
because at night
the mind takes flight
no place to hide
nowhere to seek refuge

(pause)

Time to dwell on the selfish needs
that compels you to enact those hideous deeds

To all that have been taunted
it's time to be haunted

Nobody believes you'll ever pay
for the malicious things you say

Yet what is hidden from others
sees the light
during the essence of night

The surrounding silence is gripping
and the darkness piercing

(pause)

No time to heal
to the conscience you shall kneel

So now you will remember last November
as you pray for daylight

Six am so far away

About this poem

There is no escape from a troubled conscience at night when we are alone is when our minds wander and dwell over the things we try not to think about
