Name your price

Late within a certain night
reflections of a friendship gone astray
weigh heavily upon my thoughts

Unlike you my eyes are not blinded
nor bound by fallacious fantasies
of newfound wealth

Once a solid friend
now seduced by those toxic dollar signs
Andrew Jackson is your new confidant

In reality loneliness
is your constant companion
and self loathing a nagging reminder
of the sincere things tendered to cash

So is there any misery you need to sell
Have you any peace of mind you'd like to buy

Does Andrew Jackson smile in approval
or is it sympathy
does Abe Lincoln reassurances
fill the empty movie theater seat for you
or the backyard barbecue with no attendees

So is there any sorrow you need to sell
have you any happiness you'd like to buy

Bowing down to the green God
what will be the price tag attached to your prayers
ten thousand
twenty thousand
what is the magic number to heal all your life's
dilemmas

I pray that those sunny driven fields of prosperity
shall be drenched by the fierce rains of reality

Then you decide
which is the lesser of two evils
your new money based existence
Or
the sincere things cashed in for its attainment

Name your price
